Thursday 21st December - walk *** – Chantry Park in Ipswich -
mainly cloudy.
The visit of our son Robert and Grandson Arlo comes to an end today, its
been very hectic but boy have we had some fun:) The day started with some
light rain and very windy, got a few weather pics in the garden, did some
arts and crafts with Arlo, we packed a picnic then headed to Ipswich to
drop Rob and Arlo at the railway station before droving the short distance
to Chantry Park for lunch. Mag and I then had a short walk feeding a few
squirrels and spotting a heron in the lake by the big house! Then we have a
visit to my Dad to swop Christmas presants before driving back to
Felixstowe for a quick shop at Lidl. On coming out of the shop it was
getting dark and we noticed some amazing colours in the sky and got some
pics along with half of the area:)
I've been inundated with images of the very rare #NacreousClouds which have
been spotted across the UK today even here in East Anglia.
They are made of small tiny ice crystals located in the Stratosphere some
70,000 to 100,000 feet above the earths surface above where our every day
weather occurs.
These refract and reflect the sunlight when lit from underneath and can
only be seen around sunrise or sunset, when the sun is low in the sky.
Why are we seeing them? It's because very cold arctic air high in the
stratosphere has been pushed southwards due to the recent storm system that
moved south across the UK today.
Here is an explanation from ITV’s Chris Page:)
I checked the Ipswich Star and was surprised to get a very old pic on Mags
back on her bike in :)
